Ndugu yangu Bundara anasema kwamba Waafrika waliiga matumizi ya Kizungu vizuri zaidi kuliko walivyoiga mbinu za Wazungu za uzalishaji. Ndiyo kusema tulitamani sana tabia na desturi za Wazungu angalau nasi tukubalike kama ni watu kama wao. Tulitaka tunukie Uzungu.
Lakini hatukuiga ile tabia yao ya kujenga uwezo wa kuzalisha, yaani namna bora ya kufanya kazi ili kupata tija. (Bundara: Waafrika Ndivyo Walivyo uk. 23).
Mwalimu Nyerere akizungumza na walimu Dar es Salaam Januari 31, 1969 alitamka maneno haya, “We have no choice but to build a new Tanzania with people who have no weakness but who have a spirit of purpose….creating a new Africa is the job of teachers. We have to create an African with confidence….” (Nyerere on Education Vol. II uk. 76).
Kwa tafsiri yangu alisema, “Hatuna uchaguzi katika kujenga Taifa la Tanzania lisilokuwa dhaifu, bali lenye moyo na dhamira. Kujenga Afrika mpya ni kazi ya walimu. Tumjenge Mwafrika mwenye kujiamini.”
Kisha mwalimu aliendelea kujieleza kwa vipi Mwafrika wa sasa hajiamini na akatumia mifano hai pale aliposema, “Africans want to be much to Europeans and Asians”. We have been the underdogs and it has been taken as a misfortune to be an African in Zanzibar, the Wangazija have refused to be called Africans; Even today people adopt foreign names in place of their African sounding names. For example ‘Athumani’ calls himself ‘Outhman’, one man in Rufiji has resently changed his original name, ‘Mngumi’ to ‘El Mughumi’” (Nyerere on Education Vol. II uk. 77).
Huu ni mfano hai katika nchi yetu unaothibitisha namna Waafrika wanavyoupenda Uasia au majina ya kigeni kwa kuukataa ule weusi wetu wa Uafrika. Mhandisi Bundara anaenda mbali kidogo kwa kusema wasomi walikazana kujifunza mila za wageni, na kwa kufanya vile walikuwa wanadharau mila za mataifa yao (Bundara Waafrika Ndivyo Walivyo uk. 23 – 25).
Waafrika walipenda sana madaraka na kuwa katika ofisi za wakoloni walizotuachia. Kiimani walifikiri ukishapata ule wadhifa aliokuwa nao Mzungu, basi wewe umeula. Ofisi za umma zimegeuzwa sasa kuwa kama vyanzo vya utajiri na ufahari kwa Waafrika.
Sisi hapa Tanzania tulibahatika kuwa na kiongozi shupavu, Baba wa Taifa, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. Huyu aliona mapema sana tabia hatarishi inayojengeka miongoni mwa viongozi wake waliopewa madaraka katika nyadhifa zile zilizoachwa na Wazungu.
Viongozi wote katika nchi huru za Afrika walitamani Uzungu, yaani kukaa katika nyumba kubwa na za kifahari kama vile maeneo ya Luthuli Road, Garden Avenue , Sea View, au Oysterbay. Kila kiongozi alipenda atambulike kuwa ana madaraka na aheshimiwe vilivyo kama ilivyokuwa kwa DC au PC yule Mzungu tuliyemng’oa kwenye nafasi.
Madai yale ya ukubwa hayakumpendeza Mwalimu, ndipo siku ya Sabasaba ya mwaka 1963 alizungumza hadharani kulalamikia athari za tabia inayonyemelea Taifa la Tanganyika wakati ule. Akawaandikia barua kali viongozi wote wa Serikali. Kichwa cha barua ile kilikuwa “POMPOSITY” – UFAHARI.
Alianza namna hii, namnukuu; “My dear Colleagues, On Sabasaba Day I was obliged to speak publicly against something which I have been complaining about for sometime; that is, the growing tendency within the Government to confuse dignity with what I consider to be sheer pomposity”. Kwa tafsiri yangu utangulizi ule wa barua ya Mwalimu ulisema, “Ndugu zangu, siku ile ya Sabasaba nililazimika kuzungumza hadharani juu ya tabia inayoonekana serikalini ya kuchanganya kati ya HADHI na UFAHARI.
Katika barua ile, Mwalimu alionesha wazi kuchukizwa na tabia iliyoanza kujengeka miongoni mwa mawaziri, wakuu wa mikoa, wakuu wa wilaya na viongozi wa chama cha TANU. Alikemea tabia ya kuimbiwa wimbo wa Taifa katika kila sherehe na kwa kiongozi yeyote yule na akamalizia kwa maneno haya, na nukuu tena; “Nothing could be more disrespectful to our national anthem than to treat it as a popular song-hit or a signature-time to be plugged the moment any member of the Government appears on the scene…. We must stop it; we must begin to treat pomposity with the scorn it deserves. Dignity does not need pomposity to uphold it; and pomposity in all its forms is a wrong…” (Nyerere: Uhuru na Umoja sura 49 uk. 223 – 226).
Hapo ndipo tamaa ya ufahari ya sisi Waafrika weusi, hasa Watanganyika, ilivyotarajiwa na Baba wa Taifa kukomeshwa isiote mizizi. Lakini nchi zote za Waafrika si ufahari na ubwana tu ulitamaniwa na kila kiongozi, bali walisukumwa na ile mila na taratibu za kusaidia wanandugu wote na wanaukoo au hata wanakijiji na wa kabila moja wafaidike pia kwa cheo cha ndugu yule.
